Ancient Greek architecture is all about style and a classic tradition. Greek architecture is the base of all western architecture.

They have paved the way for architecture and have shown the world what is structural design all about. Although these buildings were made of bricks, wood or clay primarily, yet they are the most beautiful of all the structures till this day.

The materials were quite different from than the ordinary ones that were used in those times. Of course limestone and local stones were used in making buildings. Apart from this extremely expensive marble was also used for making buildings for the rich and exclusive people. Yet less expensive materials like terracotta were also used.

The ancient Greece architecture used motifs, themes and attitudes which got introduced at time when this was a complete new idea. Till this day Greek architecture is considered as the foundation of the modern architecture. They are still in use in todays world.

The specialty of architecture in Ancient Greece lies in the columns. These columns are the special features of this kind of architecture. That gives it a classical look and makes it stand apart from all the buildings around the same time. They were and have always been an epitome of a great culture.

Another feature of these Greek structures is the temples. These temples had an altar for sacrifice. Again these temples had a cellar like room which was used as a storage room. Then there were some more common public places like theatres, gymnasiums and monuments. These public places had all the facilities that an audience could ask for and were used to the fullest by them.

Ancient Greek architecture has changed the way the world looked at planning and design. It needs to be mentioned here that it were the Greeks who have introduced art to the architectural designs. In a way it can be said that this kind of architecture has left its legacy to the western architecture. Today we may have variety of structural designs but ancient Greek architecture has laid the foundation for all of these.
