The period often referred to as the ancient Greece in Classical Antiquity has produced several noticeable talents who have thus become a landmark in history because of the prominent work performed by them. Some of the important discoveries which have benefitted us in todays age exists are a blessing in disguise because of the discoveries made by some Greek scholars in diverse fields.

Famous leaders in ancient Greece:

Archimedes born in 287 BC, in Sicily, was a Greek mathematician, physicist and engineer along with being an astronomer as well as an inventor. Apart from his very famous Eureka, he also helped in determining the volume of an irregularly shaped object. Further, he was also able to successfully find out the accurate value of Pi.

Research has to also gone to the extent of saying that he was also responsible in designing machines which could lift ships from water as also was he able to put ships on fire by the use of a mirror. Though Archimedes died in 212BC, he is till today regarded as the Greatest Mathematician of all times thereby becoming a source of inspiration for all other mathematicians.

Homer was a Greek epic poet who was famously known for his works like the Illiad and Odyssey. Several doubts as to the originality of the epic poems have been levied against Homer though they are to a very great extent attributed to Homer himself. There is no clarity of his birth year as some feel that he belonged to 850BC while the rest believed that he was alive during the Trojan war. Little Iliad, the Nostoi, the Cypria are of the other renditions by Homer.

Alexander the Great was born in Pella Macedonia in the year 356BC. He was the son of an excellent Army General Philip Macedon and the Princess of Espirus, Olympians which made him undoubtedly one of the greatest military geniuses of all times.

He added new territories to his large empire by overthrowing the Achaemenid Persian Empire. The reason for Greek settlement followed by the subsequent cultural influences can be a result of his conquests. Alexander the Great died on June 11, 323BC when he was almost 33 years of age.

Socrates, again, was a Greek philosopher who was born in 496BC. A method has been devised by him as a result of whom a Socrates Method evolved also known as Elenchus. This method invited a philosophical inquiry for ascertaining the implications of others position in order to boost rational thinking thereby resulting in highly enlightening ideas.

Apart from this Socrates also contributed to a very large extent in the field of epistemology and logic. Socrates was a mentor for Plato and taught Aristotle as a result of which Platos are seemingly influenced by him.

Pythagoras is very famous for his geometric theorem of Right angle. He was also responsible for Pythagoreans, which was a religious movement based on religious teaching, common meals, exercise, reading as well as studying of philosophy. He further also discovered that music also was based on the proportional intervals of the numbers from one to four.

He further pioneered in ascertaining the squares of numbers. It was Pythagoras who first laid down that the earth was round and that that the planets rotate along an axis. He was very well known as the Father of Numbers. Pythagoras died around 500 and 490 BC.

Plato who was a brilliant student of Socrates carried on Socrates work after him. He collected all ideas of Socrates and compiled them into a book. Plato was also responsible for finding the first University. His works are referred to by the philosophers even today.

Aristotle who was mentored by Socrates was responsible for many things especially in the fields of science and biology. He has written extensively on subjects like physics, poetry, zoology, biology, politics, government etc to name a few.
